With Love, Grandma is a short documentary funded by Snapchat Originals and supported by 44 Blue Productions and the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. It tells the stories grandmother, mother, and daughter dynamics throughout Southern California, using generational recipes as a lens to explore themes of migration, belonging, memory, resistance, and healing. Each chapter unfolds like a cherished family cookbook, revealing the strength and love of immigrant women whose stories deserve to be honored.
Though the documentary has been in post-production for over two years, I had the privilege of leading art direction during on-site production alongside the director. Deeply rooted in themes of femininity, immigration, and love, I focused on capturing natural sounds and calm, authentic imagery. Rather than striving for perfection, we embraced the lived-in, messy beauty of each home— allowing the warmth of these personal spaces to truly shine.
Process & Research:
My approach was rooted in respect and empathy— balancing the documentary's authenticity with a visual tone that felt warm and personable. On set, I guided the atmosphere by highlighting the natural textures and organic soundscapes that brought each story to life. Off set, I crafted promotional materials that honored the documentary's depth and celebrated the resilience of each of these women. Working closely with the director, I helped shape a story that felt honest, personal, and deeply meaningful to me.
